BREAKING: Mexico wins the World Cosplay Summit 2018. Details:
As I sit here at my home office desk writing this, it’s after midnight, still getting over my heatstroke, and still importing the images from my memory cards. It was at least 39 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees F) today, which is too hot for any outdoor activities. I struggled photographing the minor competition that was held outdoors at Oasis 21. Later, thankfully, the main event with the international performances was held in partially air conditioned the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium. I still don’t think my brain is working as well as it could be.
The international performances were great. However, there was one performance that was head and shoulders above the others. Mexico. They won a bunch of minor awards, and the Grand Prize. It was well deserved the win. Their performance was a recreated battle scene based on the computer game Street Fighter.
The performance was amazing to watch with its mix of gymnastic and pseudo Kung fu choreography. Each moment in the performance was masterfully delivered, and it truely represented very well the Street Fighter game. Furthermore, the crowd went wild during the performance and after. The many thousands of fans watching over the internet voted with a 50.7% preference for them to win the NicoNico award.
The photos of this astounding performance and more are available for sale via the portfolio. Updates will come.
